I like both photos. I believe the black and white gives a better presentation of this scene. It makes it look more stark, desolate and artistic.

Although I really like the Black & White, I have a tendency toward the color version. It seems the blue sky really boosts the image quality here. Thanks very much for the double treat.

Colour is not as dramatic as B&W and tends to add life to the shot. But having said that both are good.

The normal logic is to ditch colour if it doesn't contribute to the image, but I think it does here - the reddish brown and blue provide a nice contrast and the cool blue of the sky and shadows makes the scene more immediately wintery to me - you have to run through a few extra thought processes (types of trees, line of trees on the horizon etc) to convince yourself that the whiteness is definitely snow not sand in the B&W.

It is an excellent photo, so you can't go wrong either way. However, to me, the black & white tells a better story about the era of the barn. It also brings back memories of old abandoned barns and farmsteads in Montana where I grew up.

I, too, like the "color" version for its combination of sepia, cyanotype, and B&W tonalities. It creates a stronger separation within and between the foreground vegetation and barn wood.

Good points. I like the B&W but the color version tells the story better. Nicely captured Dave.

I vote B&W because it's cool, but Susan's right about the color one providing more "information" about the scene.

Thanks I like the BW as well. It is more processed but as you eluded to more dramatic.

Thanks for the analysis - I hadn't consider the snow losing some definition in the BW now all I see is a barn in the desert
