Purple Finch.
Lens: HD DA 55-300 PLM Camera: K-70 ISO: 800 Shutter Speed: 1/800s Aperture: F9

I think. House finch looks similar but my book's pic of House finch isn't very good.

Very nice image, I think it might be a Cassin's Finch but I'm not sure

You could be right on the ID but the photo is beautiful .

Thanks Heinrich. My bird book is not extensive but does focus on the Willamette Valley region of Oregon where I live. Doesn't mention Cassin's finch.

Based on plumage it's a Purple Finch. Range maps in authoritative field guides show that species is a year-round resident in your area. Cassin's Finch is rare there.

It's definitely a Purple Finch. Nice sharp shot.
