Wings Over Houston 2008 (6 lrg pix)
Posted By: rfortson, 10-28-2008, 07:40 PM

Took these shots with the K20D and either the Bigma or the DA*300. I tried the extended dynamic range option and it does increase the noise, so I'll probably skip it in the future, unless someone can show me why it's beneficial.

First, the shots with the DA*300....

Next, shots taken with the Bigma...

Russ, I love the "feel" of 4 and 5 with the smoke in the background.

I watched some of these gymnastics from the bay on Saturday (first time sailing since hurricane season seriously began). Now I wish I'd been up "close".

Thanks Jer, hope you enjoyed the sailing and that you came through Ike with no damage.

Thanks Mithrandir. It's a fun thing to shoot, and almost as fun looking at all the camera gear around there. I only saw one other Pentax shooter, but I was only in one spot, and then only for a couple of hours. I had to also keep an eye on my daughter, who was keeping her eyes on her book.

BTW - you gotta love a lens that lets you capture this shot, and the long shots of the planes with a twist of the wrist.

I would have to agree with Sailor on this. 4 and 5 have a nostalgic look about them. They almost look like posters that you would see at an armed forces recruiting office.

Nice series Russ. I guess it's those dark clouds giving the impression of smoke but #4 and #5 almost look like they are historical pictures from WWII when these aircraft were flying missions.

Great shots Russ. How do you compare bigma against DA 300 ? From the first look DA* pics look much sharper than bigma.

Cheers

Superb shots Russ. I have to agree, the DA* 300mm does look sharper than the BIGMA but that is to be expected. The BIGMA does an amazing job considering it's range. The Thunderbird shot is fantastic and I love the feel of the B-25 (#4). Well done!!!

Great shots, Russ. They sure beat the ones I took with my Tammy 70-300. I was there on Saturday with my Pentax. Next year I'll have to do like you and take some chairs and some reading material for my son.

Wow, shots 4 and 5 look totally unreal! Shot 2 gives us a reality reference with a bird in the picture. Well done!

I really like that 2nd shot of the F16 Falcon; tack sharp. Good work.
