Taking a Break
Lens: DA*60-250mm f4 Camera: K-3II Photo Location: Granite Bay, CA ISO: 400 Shutter Speed: 1/250s Aperture: F4

An Anna's hummingbird taking a short break before it chases the next hummingbird away from the feeder. The background is an oak tree trunk.

Nice and clear. We only get Ruby Throated around here.

Thanks! These guys are my year-round freeloaders. I usually have three or four but in the spring after they hatch there are quite a few more until they disperse at about this time.

Beautiful, and crispy at f4! The in-depth review said it was good wide open. I think my 60-250 might be front focusing a little based on a series of shots a few days ago. Haven't tested it with a chart yet. Or it may be the loose nut behind the viewfinder.

Thank you! I was very careful with this shot. The bird was landing in the same spot, so I got out my tripod and slowed down the shutter speed to keep the ISO lower. I find the lens gets very good results wide open if you take time with it.

A very nice shot, Todd! Great detail in the plumage.

I am wondering if, perhaps, this little fellow might be pondering why he wasn't born a condor, so all he had to do was spread his wings and ride the thermals, instead of having to frantically beat his wings so many times a second?
