Shallow DOF @ 1.4 is nice when you get it right
Posted By: joelovotti, 10-29-2008, 03:06 PM

This was shot with my wonderful A 50 1.4

It's just my cat but please reply with your thoughts on what shallow DOF brings to the Photo.

This shot was at 1/45s, f1.4, ISO 100 and my K10D

Thanks,
joe

Joe, like the shot. Wish the strong light in the top left of the picture was not there. It would have really made the picture pop. JIMBO

If there's one thing I would have done differently is to set the camera to ISO 400 and get a really sharp image. ISO 100 is a bit too slow for the available light.

i have done this many times, but i think the problem is the out of focus surface in the bottom right and perhaps the light in the top left. not worth trying to crop these out, you will lose too much.

I love the nose and mouth, the tones look great out of focus and you seem to have got the eye spot on.

The upper left region could easily be cloned into submission, but the lower right is a bit of a pickle. If it were not for these 2 point the picture would be out of the park. I love the capture of the cats face.
