Architecture Gable detail with DA 55-300 mm HD @ 300 mm on K20. We see the nailheads !

I couldn't believe my eyes ! We can see the nailheads in the wood slats on top of the gables from 100 feet away ! These consumer-grade lenses are usually quite poor at their longest focal length. I got a damn good sample this time on eBay.

I have the HD version (screw drive, not PLM) and I've nothing but praise for its abilities. The price-to-performance ratio is excellent...

When you get a good copy of this lens it makes heavy gear obsolete.

Thank you all for your kind words. This new (for me) lens never ceases to amaze me. At f/5.6 there is heavy vignetting at short FL and sharpness is poor at longer FL. F/8 is not impressive but is usable. It comes into its own at f/11 in the shorter ranges (55 mm to 150 mm) and then provides excellent performance around f/16 in the longer reaches (190 mm to 300 mm). BTW I have 14 and 15 year-old granddaughters but I still feel like a young man ... lol!
