I suspect that the sign is a more recent addition to the premises.

To my knowledge it's been there at least the last twenty odd years... not since 1871 I grant you.

It might even be colder now, as we've have snowfall from from last Fri until yesterday with a polar vortex parked overhead.

We had a wee dusting over the weekend, but not enough to really even settle.

Just the excuse you need to stay in with a wee dram.

But the scotts that immigrated to Canada in the 1800’s went even farther north, and while it may have looked like the highlands, it was a dam sight colder

No Poitin, tut, tut, tut. - where's your sense of enterprise

"We ain't paid no whiskey tax since 1792" - Bob Dylan "Copper Kettle", I remembered that line from the Joan Baez version.

Actually there are some advantages from the current lock down, I wandered my way down to the sea, about 1.5 miles, usually you can hear traffic from the main road to Dingle a mile or more on the other side of the canal, not a sound, not even farm machinery or the odd chainsaw, you could hear the birds were singing.

I like the "No Smoking" part, was it that way back when smoking in pubs was normal or is it a new rule?

Not sure about the others though. The main reason people go out these days is to look at their cell phones while in the company of other people also looking at their cell phones. The only cache money I normally have on me these days is $100 bill hidden in my wallet for emergencies.

...and what's wrong with backpackers?
