Whistler Ducks in an Elm Tree
Lens: DA* 300/4 Camera: K-3 Photo Location: Driveway

Undeterred by the pandemic, whistler ducks have arrived for their annual spring visit and choosing (as they do every year) an old elm tree in our front yard as headquarters.

Nice captures Jer. One thing about birds, they are very habitual animals. I have a pair of mallards that have visited my backyard feeder every year for the past 10 or more years in the month of April. My neighbor doesn't care for them, however, since they really like his pool

Thanks, Todd. These characters can make a lot of noise - and I sure don't leave a car in the driveway.

Looking at the shots this morning, they don't look as crisp as I expect from my DA 300, which can produce incredibly sharp photos. This was only the second time I've used the lens with my K-3, and I'm wondering if I should have stopped down a bit to give myself a little more "elbow room" in the DOF department.

Thank you, Larry. They certainly paid no attention to me, but - of course - they were way up there. In earlier years, I've photographed 'em walking on the ground; they won't let you get too close, but they move away at an unhurried pace.
