Originally posted by normhead The Swansons appears to be more reddish, The spectacles on Heirnrich's seem washed out, could be lighting but on the second they are white. To me the defining characteristic is on the Swansons is the brown stripes in either side of the white throat patch, while on the Hermit thrush (like the one I photographed) the white throat patch has the brown stripe right down the middle of the patch.
There are two different colorations in Swainson's, Olive-backed and Russet-backed. This is an Olive-backed. I see the brown thrushes all day on Facebook id groups, this is a Swainson's. The buffy spectacles and non-contrasting tail are the only field marks needed. A few weeks ago it would have been a Hermit thrush simply by date observed.
