Thank you Mark, that's what I thought but I had never seen them around here so I was doubtful. Thanks again for the quick response.

By the powers of deduction invested in the old Kerrowdown, I can help...

Its not a Plane... nor is it Superman... so therefore by default it's a Bird.

I'm sure glad that "old Kerrowdown" is on the ball and put me on the right track.

I got my first one this year too Heiinrich... it must be the year for them or something.

After hearing but not seeing them for 10 years, I also saw one in the woods recently just out on a walk. It kind of makes you wonder, where have they been all this time?

Hi Norm, I had never seen or heard them around here and all of a sudden on a cold and dark evening there he was walking along the bushes on the lawn. Go figure.

I'm going to have to disagree on Hermit Thrush. Hermit Thrush have a tail that contrasts with the back, this bird does not. This bird has buffy spectacles, which the Hermit Thrush does not.

The Swansons appears to be more reddish, The spectacles on Heirnrich's seem washed out, could be lighting but on the second they are white. To me the defining characteristic is on the Swansons is the brown stripes in either side of the white throat patch, while on the Hermit thrush (like the one I photographed) the white throat patch has the brown stripe right down the middle of the patch.

There are two different colorations in Swainson's, Olive-backed and Russet-backed. This is an Olive-backed. I see the brown thrushes all day on Facebook id groups, this is a Swainson's. The buffy spectacles and non-contrasting tail are the only field marks needed. A few weeks ago it would have been a Hermit thrush simply by date observed.

Great shot of a Swainson's Thrush. Hermit Thrush lacks the buffy spectacles and has a reddish tail. Songs are completely different as well but this one was silent
