Young Black Bear
Lens: A 400/5.6 Camera: K-50 Photo Location: Golden, BC ISO: 280 Shutter Speed: 1/500s Aperture: F11

I didn't see a single bear or deer this morning on an hour long walk, until I turned a corner and this little guy was standing there. Very quick shot, and not perfect, as I didn't hang around to say hi to the mother...

Black animals are hard to capture Robert. Perhaps a more open f stop would have gotten you more light, f11 is kind of too dark for black bears or birds. But it's a nice capture.

I wouldn't have waited for mom either.

I normally shoot at f11 due to the lens being sharpest there - black bears do pose a challenge to metering, with spot metering for example the rest of the scene has overblown highlights...

Often, I notice my shots are a bit underexposed compared to others shared here - must be the way processing things too...

Plenty of people hunt bear, and it's open season right now, but I've never had an urge to eat bear meat...

I have never seen a bear in the wild and it is very unlikely I will ever do in the Netherlands. Thanks for showing me the next best thing; a bear on Pentaxforums!

Have some friends up here who have had one come up on their back deck a few times to raid the bird feeders. My Sister in Northern Minnesota has also had it happen more than once.

I'm pretty lucky (or unlucky, depending on your perspective) where I am, with wildlife all around - I'm starting to find the bears are boring to shoot as they're always there...
