You did say 'men don't listen' in post #2 above. I edited your quote in my post #23 to make it seem like I only heard half of what you said. A clumsy attempt at a joke.
You really shouldn't do things like unless you use emojies.

I'm in the dog house at the moment for failing to listen, I have absolutely no idea what I was supposed to be listening to and I can't ask my daughter because she thinks I know what it was and if I admit I don't know by asking I'll be in double trouble.

I have been given to understand I've been happily married for 51 years.

Nice long years. Thank goodness I only was married for 20 years, but that's because I didn't marry until I was 38 years old. There is a story behind that, but I won't bore you with it today.

I thought the 'wink' emojie I used would indicate I was kidding. I guess my poor attempt at humor was a bit too obscure.

LOL Emoji would have worked better, for instance,

What I want to know is, what is the clear liquid in the two bottles the man is carrying? In the 35 years that I've known my wife, we always carry our own refreshments, mainly because we don't trust each other to leave the other's bottle alone.

My best guess is... Gin & Tonic.

That's why I know I'm not 100% Scottish.... one beer a day at 4 o'clock is good enough for me. When I was hanging out with the Scots and the Gaelic Arts School, I was good for the first half hour of the party. After that I wasn't acceptable tipsy.

You don't want to know what we call "heavy weights" around here.

Ya, when dealing with the Scottish I find that can be a very offensive term.

Ah, that explains everything. If I had been there, I could have enlightened this poor lad (from many years of experience in failing to woo the fairer sex). If she hasn't already offered to carry her share of the refreshments, she will be even less willing once the two of them arrive at his intended destination. Good thing I didn't need to ply my wife with distilled spirits or else I would be a single man to this day.

Otherwise, one ends up becoming a most unattractive fool, and no amount of inebriated begging will convince her otherwise.
Your sounding far to like... an experienced person in these matters.
