Watched this guy slowly wade along the shore and catch fish until a blackbird harassed him long enough he flew off across the pond.

Great series of shots! All nice and sharp, including the in-flight captures with nice reflections. Could you indulge me and crop the last image, just above the red-winged blackbird, and just below the heron's reflection, with just a little space either side? Am curious to see the juxtaposition of the two differently coloured birds' heads.

Very nice, sharp shots. I would be happy if I got a series like that!

Here is as close as I can get - this is 100% crop. 200mm isn't very long on FF and this is shooting across the pond. I have to say I am impressed by the clean ISO 800 from the K1 and the sharpness from the Tamron lens here.

Here it is at not quite 100% due to forum scaling.

Thanks! I don't often shoot birds and don't have anything longer than 200mm but this was fun and worked out great. There are a lot of high quality pixels to crop from on the K1.

I love these. The lighting is perfect! Shoot more birds. Maybe time to invest in a D FA 150-450mm?

Thanks for that, Vector. Yeah, I wondered from the original shot how much you could crop. Working with less than a 300mm for birding puts you a little behind the eight-ball unless you can get up close. But this was a great series - you certainly had the focus nailed.

Excellent series! I love the shot with the interaction between the blackbird and the heron. You timed it perfectly.

Blackbird was dive bombing the heron and squawking like mad until the heron flew off and then the blackbird chased it across the pond and continued to do the same. Not sure why.
