So beautiful is this photo but didn't getting this close intimidate you . I had one like this grab my lower lip in its mandibles and sting the beejeezus out of me in three quick stabs. Even so you have a great image here .

Nice shot Todd.


You certainly must have been close to take this with a 50mm lens. I try to use my 100mm Macro for this type of shot, and even that means getting pretty close. My 55-300mm PLM gets used for some of these types of shots too. Must admit, over the 18 months since I got back into photography (after 40 yrs) I have been less and less conscious of worrying about getting stung, and more about getting the shot.

Great shot of a fly. Flies have only a single wing on each side whereas bees have two wings per side. Also note the stubby fly antennae.

Yes, I was at MFD with the 50. I was photographing flowers when this little guy came around so I decided to see how close I could get.
