We've All Taken this Picture . . . .
Lens: DA*300 Camera: K-3 Photo Location: Backyard ISO: 1600 Shutter Speed: 1/500s Aperture: F8

. . . . . at one time or another. I've heard that squirrels are just rats with fluffy tails and a good PR team, but they're around in abundance, fun to shoot and useful for me to reintroduce myself with my K-3 after over two years of nonuse. This squirrel is a member of a tribe that inhabits the big live oak tree in our backyard. The shot was taken just a few days ago, despite the camera's claim that it was taken 03/11/2013.

You are correct, they are a lot of fun to watch and photograph. As my close, personal friend Yogi Berra would say, "You can observe a lot, just by watching." ) Thnx for a very nice photo.

When they are stealing food from your bird feeder and chasing the birds away, or getting into your shed and knocking stuff off the shelves, they are annoying tree rats. When they are doing something cute, well, they're cute. I often want to shoot them, but not always with the same device.

Very cute Jer! I wish I had my camera in my hand yesterday when I watched a squirrel climb under my neighbor's hip roof tile. The neighbor had a roofer out earlier in the day, but apparently they haven't figured out how to keep them out. I hear them rustling around under his roof all of the time.

Yup, they certainly go after birdseed, but hey, everybody gets his share.

When I take that picture, I'm always thinking "oh no, not another squirrel" , but I can't help myself.

As for the rats reference, back in my days living near the Detroit River, sometimes I'd sit and watch the river rat families far below the shore on the water's edge. I have to say, squirrels are infinitely more interesting. They're like rats with attitude.

Believe it or not, I had virtually the same thought when I took this one. Little devils are tough to resist.
