First shot with extension tube
Posted By: xs400, 11-02-2008, 12:52 PM

I purchased a Vivitar 2X teleconverter on ebay for $5. Well, you get what you pay for, and the teleconverter was so soft that I considered it useless. However, I was able to remove the optics and convert it to an auto extension tube. For $5 I am very happy with my new-to-me extension tube. This shot was taken in my backyard with the extension tube + Pentax A 50mm f/2.8 macro.

I've got myself some M42 extension tubes, but I need to paint them black on the inside, because internal reflections are killing any hopes of me ever getting a decent shot.

Paint them black Qool Idea. Getting a M42 adapter soon. It is also all bright and shiny on the inside. Paint it black too?

At first I thought I'd wasted $5 on that 2X converter, but when I found out I could remove the optics, I was a happy man. I will most likely use it as an extension tube far more than I would have as a 2X teleconverted.
