Working at sunrise, close to shore this Western Grebe seems quite casual .

Being ready for this opportunity was strictly a matter of dumb luck since this grebe was unexpected.

The red eye is easier then getting dark pupil noticeable.

Very nicely done. Even sitting still, this animal is still moving in sync with the waves. Not an easy task to avoid motion blur, even at 1/1000s and high ISO it can be tricky. Excellent job.

In this area the mating dance which is quite unique , doesn't happen . Too bad because it is spectacular . Thanks for your observations .

Yes, I have seen it on video docs: they go through a series of mimicing each other's movements, then suddenly rise up out of the water in tandem and run across the water together! It is an amazing thing to see.
