Focus stacked pyrite

Spent some time playing with focus stacking this week, using a chunk of pyrite from my rock collection. I shot these out on my back deck in natural light, shaded mostly-sunny afternoon light. Tripod mounted focus rail, with 4 up to 20 slices. Stacking done in the Mac using Focus Stacker app, some editing in Gimp once I figured out a few things...

Thanks, this one turned out pretty nicely, I thought. The first is a stack of 20 slices, the others are about 10 each. It's still not quite as sharp as I'd like, but if I dial back the ISO to 100 and add more light it ought to improve that.

That's really interesting, shows the crystalline layered structure really well.
