Dad is bring home the "bacon"
Lens: DFA 150-450 Camera: K-3II ISO: 2000 Aperture: F9

At least in this location tricolored blackbirds eat primarily grasshoppers . Somehow foragers bring 3 or more grasshoppers at once! How can a bird with one or two grasshoppers in its beak grab another and carry all three to the nest? Males and females can haul three "hoppers at a time.

Yes this is high quality protein that the young put to good use as they leave the nest in around 12 days .

Their favorite food is grasshoppers which I am amazed by how many are carried back to the nest . Fledged birds help their parents raise the next brood .

Yes , K2 My 150-450 gets the most use . It can focus as close as 6.5 ft so flowers and insects are easy to capture .
