There be Monsters
Posted By: slowpez, 06-27-2020, 11:23 AM

Finally got outside for a bit and took a short (too short) trip in our RV. This photo was taken in the Pisgah National Forest near the Blueridge Parkway. The trunks of the Rhododendron's are always fascinating.

Yes, I was always told that when you cross the line into No'th Ca'lina, you got to watch out for the bonsters. "Stay in Vahdjinnia, bwah, so's you don' git et!", they said.

Great picture, by the way. I mean, a really, seriously good picture. I especially like it because it doesn't follow standard "rules" of composition - the "leading lines" take you to the edge of the picture, and it's chaotic. At the same time, it represents a natural process really well, since, as you observe, Rhody branches don't obey the rules of composition, and all those twisty, turny branches have a way of sucking your attention into the background, which is interesting in itself. I really love the contrasting tones from front to back.

This is an outstanding image! The contrast between the dark trunks in the foreground and the light, soft woods in the background is beautiful. Well done.

Very nice indeed! It might look good in B&W too.

Nothing like a competition to breathe life into a thread dormant for 18 months! On the up side, I got to see this excellent image!

Great patterns created by the Rhododendrons in a surreal atmosphere.
