Well-captured and processed macro! What was the magnification ratio?
Best.

Thank you Charlie!

I used a standard 50mm lens with Pentax tube Nos. 1 and 3 = 38mm of extension =0.91X if the online calculator is to be believed.

This was my first macro using an old lens with extension tubes. I've done stacks before with a true macro lens, and so am used to being able to focus from 1:1 out essentially as deep as I want. With the extension tubes, I knew ahead of time that you lose your infinity focus, but the max focus distance is not very far at all. In this shot, you can see some out of focus areas: those were out of focus with the lens at the infinity stop! Very shallow.

I have more experimenting to do. At some point I'll probably try to tabulate the min/max focus distance for each of my manual lenses with various amounts of extension. I'm hoping that will help reduce the trial and error with tube and lens selection.

Thanks for the extra information. As a novice regarding macro photography it is helping me to understand more about it.
Best.

The things, patterns, shapes and details we don't normally see because they are too small - the joy of discovery - this is what macro is for me. And this is an excellent example.
Obviously a well-planned and executed image.
