Bugs n crawlers
Posted By: JCSullivan, 10-11-2006, 05:16 PM

We saw this little fellow and many after him and then we noticed these bugs which I believe are one of the same. Still need to confirm.

Edit: Well, they're not one of the same. Matter of fact two totally different species and animal.

The caterpillar is a Banded Wooly Bear Caterpillar which then turns into the Isabella Tigor Moth - strage that the moth itself has no colour.

The bug is a Large Milkweed Bug.

These are wonderful!! This is the kind of shot I could only hope to get, but I keep trying anyway. The first one is my favorite. The only thing I could really figured out from the exif is that the focal length was 450mm equivalent. Did you stand back and zoom in to get these guys? Were they hand held. Am I jealous - yes!

Hi Debbie, thanks for the compliments.

The first one is a crop, hand-held with the Tamrom 70-300. Unfortunately not too clear since it was moving in and out of the grass.

The second and third, using the same lense tripod-mounted.

The 450mm equivelant is the 35mm film equivelant - forgot what it is called. I was about 2 feet away on all three shots.

You don't have to dream you can get there with a tele-macro, just keep trying and watching these fora.

I wonder if the focus is a touch long in the first one - still, at that much zoom, you did great to get it as clear as you did.

The milkweed in the last shot is very nice.
