Hi,
a couple a weeks ago I took my GR II for a mountaineering trip in the Southern Alps.
Large crevasse on Glacier Blanc at dawn:
Our main objective, Barre des Écrins (4,101m) as seen from Pic de Neige Cordier (3,614m), with the wide angle conversion lens:
This is the highest peak of the massif, with a beautiful snowy north face.
After the first part of the climb (Barre Noir couloir) we have reached Brèche des Écrins just after sunrise
From there one can see clearly the rest of the itinerary. First there was a traverse on the glacier till we were just under the summit high face
followed by another couloir straight to the summit.
View of the lower (and easier) Dôme de Neige during the final ascent
Here is another team on the summit ridge
View from the summit
During the descent
After the descent here's an overall view on the north face. The Barre Noir couloir that we climbed before dawn is on the far-left. One can see also the huge overhanging seracs
And finally the glacier tongue before coming back to the car
thanks for looking,
Dan
