Great pix...almost in sync ...just like the Stooges. The best Stooge....in my view...Moe....although Curly was close.

This is a terrific capture Dave! I can't tell you how many times I have attempted to photograph them around my area and they always scurry or fly away before I can get the shot.

Thanks all for the comments. This family of quail are very skittish too Todd. After snapping this shot I tried to get closer but after only two slow and deliberate steps they took off.

Circular thoughts when approaching, and think about something else until you have them in focus. (It sounds like it should work, right?) Have you tried feeding some grain in the yard? You may get a bear if nothing else!

Though it now occurs to me that Manny wore glasses and smoked a cigar.

I'm thinking them birds must be this year's crop, siblings, and they're just beginning to use their wings, not having become independent just yet. Ya think?

Hatched this year. A lot bigger than when we first saw them. They were not much bigger than a golf ball. And they fly like the adults.

A truly brilliant image, Dave! You absolutely sure you didn't hypnotise these guys into posing "just so" for you?
You were probably in one hell of a hurry to get this shot before they took off, but it doesn't show -beautifully shot.

I appreciate your kind words. I was sitting on our deck waiting for a hummingbird to come back to the feeder. Looked over my shoulder and saw two young quail perched on a brush pile in the yard. Hummingbird feeder was in shade. Quail in sun. By the time I changed exposure settings and scooched around so I was facing them better another one had hopped up to the same branch. Took this shot, looked at it and wanted to get closer. Slowly stood up and took a couple of small steps in their direction and the entire covey took off. Twelve youngsters and mom and dad. Was quite the flush of sound and energy in a split second. Fun to watch.
