San Francisco skyline with clouds.
Posted By: Damn Brit, 11-04-2008, 07:04 PM

I saw this and had to shoot it. I was struck by the way the clouds were mimicking the skyline with the fog rolling in between the skyline and the clouds.

Sorry about the IQ, the T28-300 was at full zoom and I had misplaced my remote so there was some vibration.

UPDATE, this one turned out sharper. Chronologically it is four minutes earlier than the above shot and unfortunately the colours are not so intense. I decided to display both instead of switching because it is a good example of how quick you have to be for sunsets. Exp was also different 1/2 sec as opposed to 1/4 sec.

Great shot. I like the horizontal bands of color!

I can readily see why you shot this despite IQ problems. Those clouds at the horizon look like a herd of marching elephants. I wish I could have seen this myself.

They're pretty cool aren't they? I found the remote a couple of minutes after and by then it was too dark.

Is the banding caused by air poluttion? Reminds me of close-up pictures of Jupiter's cloud bands.

Jovian atmosphere there, Gary.

Was this shot hand-held? Because 250mm @ 1/4" is WOW.

No, not hand held, tripod. Trouble is the 2 second timer isn't good enough on my deck, too much vibration.

Until just before I found the bloody remote. It was where I'd left it a couple of days before when I was taking pictures of the fire in my living room.
Actually, it was about 10 minutes but it was only that intense for a couple.

Hey Brit,

Is that the Tammy 28-300 you took that with? I'm still relatively new to the boards, but haven't heard many people mention that lens. I really like it, but use it more than I probably should (convenience factor), do you use it often?

Cheers.
