I am most embarassed to have to admit that I have been living within 30 minutes drive from this wonderful site, I don't recall ever visiting it until two days ago.

So I am going to post, over the next week or so, my first pics from inside this wonderful site. I am not a gardener (am just having my first garden set up in my back yard at this very moment, after having this home built way back in 1981!!)

So, not being a gardener, you will not get any plant names from this little series from me - but you are welcome to educate me on which plant I have photographed. This little series is all from one small section of the Mt Coot-tha Gardens.

Hope you enjoy!

EDIT: the more I view this image the more the presence of the flower below the intended subject annoys me. If I had used a different angle I may have been able to better isolate the main subject??? A larger aperture might have helped, but would have lost some of the depth of the main subject? Aahh, the old "second-guessing" syndrome!!

I am not much of a gardener either, but it looks like a variety of chrysanthemum. I think this kind of flower looks good when the entire bloom is in focus, so I like the use of a smaller aperture. Sometimes it is hard not to have other blooms in the background no matter what angle you try. Maybe you could apply a darkening vignette and de-saturate the background a bit.

Thanks Todd, maybe I could - if I knew how!!! Some cropping for better after-the-fact composition, and (recently) a bit of playing with the exposure is the extent of my talents with post-processing!

@Kdgparnell, @ProfessorBuzz - thank you also for the "Likes".

The Mt Coot-tha gardens are a lovely spot. I've only been there once myself but I'll blame that on living on the northern outskirts of Brisbane. It's a popular spot for some of the camera clubs and even those people running photography courses. Thanks for sharing your series of images.
