Walk on the surreal side
Posted By: JMR, 11-05-2008, 01:40 PM

Right out of Pleasantville. These are the Badlands of Caledon in Ontario; families can't resist stopping and going for a walk. Most kids do not want to leave. If you are going, bring old jeans and old running shoes. Lots of Clay dust everywhere.

Wow. It almost looks man-made. Very intriguing landscape.
Does it ever rain there? It would be interesting to see rivulets forming.

Not really man-made, but caused by man. It turns out the place was abandoned after people realized it was not good farming land. It stayed denuded and erosion took care of the rest. There are green-white lime deposits also. It is now protected area. Many model and Ad shoots are done there.

Thanks for the feedback.

My dogs, George especially would have the time of their lives running up there if they were allowed.
Great image.

Mars Anyone?

I personally call it the martian landscape.

Pity in some ways the shot wasn't color, you would understand the comment.

I will edit this with a photo shortly

Great image.
As a matter of fact, Gary, there was dog there today and he was so exhuberant that he did not care to chase his owners ball. He would get the ball, look at them (a couple) and then drop the ball, look at them again, and then start to run as if to say, now you follow me! He took off and came back very wet.

Very cool shot of an interesting landscape. It deserves the name.

Dave, you've been in Vegas too long!

Great capture of a very interesting looking place. I know my youngest son (8yrs) would love this place. He is amazingly nibble footed, I swear part mountain goat!

I did strip. It was quite warm that day. We are having an Indian summer.

Quite so. People call it the Badlands or the Elephant back. And for those who have never seen before, they can't believe this is simple erosion.

Thanks. Indeed, your son would love this place. It is hard to drag the kids away when it is time to go. Only hunger prompted them to get back into the car.

Thanks Joni. These were shot in color and then turned into two layers. I made a colour layer and then decided to experiment and created a second black and white layer. The result is this sepia colored scene, which is almost the same color as the landscape itself. By the way, it does look good in BW.
