Terrific shots, Rob. That red head of the first cockatoo is . . . . . . . well . . . . . . really red!

Thanks Jer! It was in shade, so the saturation is high - camera sensors seem to be especially sensitive to red. Having said that, the head of the male is quite bright.

Thanks! I didn't realise that they would actively dig out a nesting hole. I hope the space doesn't get stolen by another pair of birds. The Galahs, Sulphur-crested Cockatoos, Rosellas and other birds are all looking for spaces too!

Great shots Rob. We do have a great collection of parrot-family type birds here in Oz. You are lucky to so easily find the black- and Gang Gang varities where you work and live.

I'm actually curious why the ACT region is so good for Cockatoos. There's even a pair of endangered Glossy black Cockatoos which have been recently sighted in Canberra. Part of the reason is the number of pine trees which were planted around the ACT as part of the Griffin design. The ACT was intended to be self-sufficient in timber, and large pine forests (mostly California Coast Pine) were planted. The Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos seem to have adapted to them. There seems to be enough native Acacias and other non-native pine trees that the Gang-gangs like.
