A few from Seattle vacation
Posted By: RoxnDox, 11-07-2008, 11:24 AM

Wow, travel for an actual vacation instead of for work... Went out to see the family and be part of the surprise gathering for my mom's 70th, and took a little time to do some playing around for myself. Nice weather, nice scenery!

C&C welcome

(EDIT NOTE - I pulled the small versions of the images and instead I am relinking to the full versions over at Deviant Art...) I hope these ones will display more nicely without jpeg compression artifacts...

1. Some old pilings from a long-departed dock...

2. Lots of crows hanging around the beach

3. And the seagulls, of course... AF on the K100D/Promaster 70-300 worked pretty well I thought.

4. Looking northwards to Mount Baker

5. The "Experience Music Project" building and the Space Needle

6. And another crow at another beach, looking for some seafood...

Thanks. That shot is of Mt Baker, northernmost of the "Big 5" volcanoes in Washington. Mt Rainier is south of Seattle, about 80 miles SSE of this spot. Mt Baker is about 60 miles NNE of here ("here" being the town of Mukilteo, WA).

I wish there had been less haze/smog that day. Baker is a beautiful peak when you catch it on a really clear day.

Since you were in Mukilteo, did you get a chance to visit Whidbey Island? It is a lovely place, and I was stationed at the Naval Air Station in the mid-60's before going to Nam.

No, didn't go over there this trip. Been there MANY times though (I grew up in Lynnwood just down the road). Whidbey is indeed a beautiful place - Esp. up at Deception Pass.

Thank you
I grew up in Briar, though the postal address was Bothell. Greater Lynnwood was just over the hill! My grandmother and aunt both lived in Mukilteo. I remember going down to the ferry dock with my cousins as a kid. Mt. Baker is sooo photogenic, though it is a real shame that the atmosphere is so hazy.

Briar, oh yes... My aunt & uncle had a place in Briar before they headed south to Tucson... I do miss the easy access to both mountains and saltwater...

The haze was thick enough that even though we had a beautiful day atop the Space Needle, I couldn't get a decent photo of Mt Rainier

Thanks - the perspective involved lying on my back in the middle of the sidewalk next to the building so I could catch the reflection... Good thing my relatives all know I'm nuts, they didn't think anything of it...
