Mountaineering in the Southern Alps (K-1 Mk II and GR II pictures)
Camera: GR II Photo Location: Ecrins, French Alps
Posted By: Dan Paris, 09-18-2020, 01:46 PM

Hi,

here are some shots from my last mountaineering trip. Our objective was to climb the west face of the Sirac (3,441m)

First a night view of the mountain from the south (with the K-1 Mk II + 15-30@22mm, 20*15sec for the sky at ISO800, a single 3min shot at ISO6400 for the ground)

From the same valley after sunrise, still with the K-1

For the rest of the trip I only took the GR II. We first had a long hike around the moutain with 3 passes to cross before reaching the mountain hut.

Closer view of the south face

West face and Vallonpierre Glacier as seen from Col de Vallonpierre (stitched panorama)

A sheep herd drinking in the lake beneath the huge NW face

After a short night, during the climb of the Glacier just before sunrise

In the shadow of the Sirac

Climbing the face above the glacier

Last ridge before the summit

View to the north from the summit (stitched panorama)

View to the south

Time to go down

North face from Valgaudemar valley

Mountain stream

thanks for looking,

Dan

Very nice set of images. Thanks for posting them. They tell the story very well. I cannot imagine what it is like to do that. I love bushwalking but I have no head for heights!

Fantastic scenic series of some amazing country! I envy your being able to do that hike (I am 76, so well and truly beyond me even if I could get there!)

For the Milky Way picture I used a Rollei Compact Traveler Carbon, yes it is a bit flimsy with the K1 + 15-30 mounted on it, however fully retracted it is rigid enough (which is OK for astro)
