Sacred Kingfisher (I believe....??)
Lens: Pentax HD DA 55-300mm f/4.5-6.3 ED PLM WR RE Lens Camera: Pentax KP Photo Location: Local Neighbourhood ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/350s Aperture: F8
Posted By: K2 to K50, 09-30-2020, 07:10 PM

It is many years since I spotted one of these in the local neighbourhood. Maybe its because it is spring, maybe because, since getting back into photography, I am spending more time outdoors (even if it is only in my own back yard!!). This is not a great shot, but had to post it, because I feel like I have spotted an old friend!!
Heavily cropped from original image - he wouldn't let me get too close before flying off!

Great shot. I've seen quite a few but getting close enough for a good shot remains elusive..

King fishers have some of the sharpest eyes among birds so you could be a combination of quick , lucky , and nonthreatening . This bird wasn't very worried about you .

Thanks, peoples. A car drove past just after this shot, and the bird took off, so I wasn't able to sneak closer. This is a heavy crop, but thanks to the 55-300 PLM lense and the KP's 24 megapixels, the detail isn't too bad.

@gordon-134, thanks for the "Like"; you also, SSGGeezer.
