Red Shouldered Hawk
Lens: DA* 300/4 Camera: K-3 Photo Location: Front Yard ISO: 560 Shutter Speed: 1/1000s Aperture: F6.7

This character was hanging out in the elm tree in our front yard this morning. Based on the Cornell bird identification app, I think this is a Red Shouldered Hawk.

Excellent! Not sure if it’s red shoulder or Coopers

Beautiful bird, whatever it is. Nice glint in his eye and he looks hungry.

Beautiful, both for the geometric cut (diagonal of the branch) and the framing from below, not always easy generally with birds. Not easy to identify the hawk, but quite likely.

Best wishes for the next shoots.

Ciao Mario

Great shot! It looks like a Red-shouldered Hawk rather than a Broad-winged Hawk with which it is often confused. The white tail bands are much thinner than the black bands in Red-shouldered which fits this bird.

Thanks much, Mike. If it's a hawk, that's close enough for me.

Thank you, Susan. He's either hungry or lining up his aim, should I decide to park my freshly detailed car under that branch!

Thank you very much. It's clear you know a great deal more about birds than I do - I didn't even know it a hawk until I consulted the Cornell app!

Well, at least he would poop on quality.

Thanks much, Dave. I think she was disdainfully eyeballing the scrawny old geezer looking up at her!

Superb capture! You have caught the glint in the eye, the "hawk-like" stare, and I love the mossy texture on the branch.
