On what this bird was. I'm not a birder, but usually can find anything by searching. I saw this bird on the bank of my lake, No camera close. Ran grabbed the KP and by the time I returned, it had flown across the way. Grabbed a quick shot so I could try to figure it out.......CLUELESS!!!! HUGE CROP! legs and eyes are yellow.




Fast forward to today.... Saw another unique bird with Flame Red Eyes.... Was ready so shot a few brackets. Came up with this shot, easy to ID as a Black Crowned Night Heron Adult.




When searching for this I discovered the "mystery bird" was a juvenile Black Crowned Night Heron.

Around five years ago I noticed black crowned night herons while trying my hand at scenics . It was nest building time so their activity was high and my curiosity about birds has led to many hours of fun .

I love watching the Herons here year round. Management just redid the lake bank here and all the wading birds show up to feed.
When I first saw the juvenile It was fishing and then went across the water to the trees, makes sense now
