Lyon from the River Saône
Lens: FA31 Ltd Camera: K20D Photo Location: Lyon, France ISO: 200 Shutter Speed: 1/320s Aperture: F6.3

This is a conversion from the original photo, taken 10 years ago on my K20D, which made a nice, but not particularly interesting picture. The monochrome conversion in Topaz Studio achieves a much more satisfactory result, I think.

I own the K20D since 2008, it seems to me a good conversion the tonal range of gray is quite wide, also the possibility to use from the internal menu allows a good tonal range also in the room.
For the conversion I use VitaminBW 2, I put the link so you can see some movies about how it works by Marco Olivotto.

Thanks for all that, maw. I hadn't heard of VitaminBW previously, and, even though I'm fairly happy with what Topaz Studio provides, I will follow up on it.

Thank you. Lyon is a nice city in many ways. We were fortunate in that our hotel was next door to a good brasserie, but we sampled others of course. The amusing thing about Lyon cuisine is that in some parts it’s hard to find a restaurant that’s open for lunch, because they’re closed (for lunch!).

Having followed up, I can see why you'd use this, maw.

Unfortunately, Vitamin BW2 is only compatible with Adobe Photoshop CC, and VitaminBW1 is only compatible with PhotoShop CS6 and later. That leaves me out, as I'm on PhotoShop CS5, and not seeing enough in the others to upgrade.

That’s great! Rivers are good subjects, as there’s always something different going on, even if it’s just the light.

Thank you! Sometimes clouds can be flat and dull, but they were kind to me on that day.

Very nice. I wonder whether cropping the left to remove the buildings in the background might make the buildings in the foreground stand out more.
