Eeeeeuuwww.... (I asked my daughter how to title the thread)
Posted By: markf79, 11-09-2008, 07:02 PM

I could use some feedback on focusing in the dark. This was late evening, and I was using a cyclops headlamp to light up what it would, but focusing was a real challenge here. AF was even less accurate. The flash didn't seem to bother the bug, though...

OOOOooo Wow!

What to say? If another would have emerged I'd been scared! Maybe your daughter said it all.

Very Beautiful. I find myself repeating the phrase: It is all about timing and light. THis series makes that clear.

Great job for being there and documenting the metamorphosis. Focusing looks alright to me.
Tripod and lighting would have helped with how the shots looked but you did the best with what you had and thats all we can ask of ourselves. Better to get it than miss it.

There's about 80+ pics in the series, although more than a few have the aforementioned 'focusing in the dark' problem.

Here's what happens when the cicada attempts to emerge in the daylight, and doesn't get out of its husk fast enough-

Nature is not always beautiful from visual point, but it sure is wondrous. I think you did fairly well on these; this series reminds of the oft posted butterfly metamorphisis series.

First rate. One of natures truly miraculous transformations. (I hope we all do something like that that in the end only in a less messy, more spiritual way.)

Talk about being at the right place at the right time !!!!! Did you discover this insect and get super lucky, or did you find it and check / camp on it until it happened. Tell us the lead up! This is a very interesting post.

Really great series.... How do you catch that? Had you been monitoring the casing for a while?
