I wouldn't expect someone to show off a sunrise in B&W. The main reason you shoot then is for the colourful lighting. But this works really well. It is far less about the sky, and much more about the foreground and water.

I would add the sky or lack there of provides a balance to the foreground and a frame to the water. The sky though is very much present in the water providing that smokie glass look.

I agree and the photo wouldn't be the same if you cropped off the top, even with the smoky glass look in the water. But it doesn't dominate the image the way a sunrise/sunset sky can when it is full of bright reds and oranges

Agree completely on the bright reds and oranges of a sunset. I lean heavily toward b&w photography over color except on rare occasion. But you have inspired me to post a couple of those rare occasions. Coming shortly...

Looking forward to it. And maybe I'll bug you about a B&W I'm trying to process that's proving a challenge.

Anytime! Be glad to lend assistance. I actually took all of my honeymoon photos on AgfaPan AP 400. 72 exposures. My wife’s never forgotten
