Green Heron
Lens: DA 55-300plm Camera: K3ii Photo Location: Gilbert AZ ISO: 800 Shutter Speed: 1/1250s Aperture: F5.6

From what I have read these are skittish and hard to see. They stay on low branches in heavy undergrowth. Colors didn't start to pop until I changed exposure compensation.

Yes-in pond #6. Was perched low-just above the water-looked like a dark blob. Exposure compensation changed everything.

Try spot exposure. It worked for me today in a similar situation. Nice shot. Did you see the pelicans yet?

Yesterday the Pelicans were in the same pond-along with the Roseate Spoonbill (perched in a tree) Never tried spot exposure-always used center weighted-will try it- thanks

I have had them either fly away or they freeze in some cover . Usually spot exposure can be useful unless the cover is really thick .

I’m not a birder but what I shot today appeared to be a black crowned night heron along the eastern most path main path between the entrance and the restrooms. If I ever figure out how to post an image, I will download a shot.
