Lovely picture of a fairy wren. Our wrens here in Germany are not as colourful (but still beautiful), but have a lovely singing voice.

Great detail in the feathers. I know this was at f6.3 but he must have let you get very close because your DOF is very shallow.

Yes, he was relaxing before searching for bugs along the path I was walking on. He seems to have decided that it's his territory, and all these people walking on it are getting in the way!

It's often the case that less colourful birds have a more complex song. Probably the logical example of that in birds where I live is the Lyrebird, which is able to mimic any sound it hears.

I think the image is only cropped to square from the original proportions. He was very close. I managed two frames before he flew off to hop along the path, but the second one was blurred. I have the custom setting defaulted to f6.3 to try to make the shutter speed as fast as possible, but I do try to stop down a bit if there's enough light. In this case there wasn't time, but happily the PLM focussed quickly.
I edged around the plants to get a clear view but his tail is still obscured.

The blue was actually better in the camera JPG. For some reason, DxO made the blue much more pale in the process of colour correction. I'm not sure why.

Thank you! I was lucky that this guy is very bold, although I only had time for one quick shot before he flew elsewhere (actually two frames, but the second was blurred).
