During the summer, White Sands remains a little cooler than the surrounding locales, so people go sand sliding there and escape the heat a little. Sunshine is really intense though.

I really like the first photo, it is quite different from anything else I've seen. I'm drawn to the umbrella in the second, though I doubt it is going to rain

What a landscape ... you did well showing your sky. The clouds are complimenting the land. The color contrast of the human figures balanced the almost surreal feeling of the scene, so did the inclusion of the cars. Very nice. I prefer the first because of the wider view.
