I seriously need a macro lens...
Posted By: ViS, 11-13-2008, 05:32 AM

I reckon a 100mm macro lens would make a nice christmas present

I'm loving the 18-250mm lens, but a dedicated macro would be divine....

So cute and funny there. I love it. The backdrop is light pastel colour too.

If you have a 50mm lens, just get a reversing ring. Be sure to get the size that matches the filter threads on your lens. You screw the adapter onto the lens like a filter then mount the k-mount side on the camera. Instant and surprisingly good macro capabilities

Hey Mike (and others),

I hope this is not a stupid question, but what size filter / reversing ring fits on a PENTAX SMC K MOUNT 50mm f2.0? I think it's 49mm but it's hard to find the info, as I don't have the lens yet (it's being posted to me as we speak).

Also, what do you mean about mounting the k mount side? Do I need another adapter? I assume I'll need an M42 adapter as well?

After I have those, I'd need a 42 to 49mm step up ring?

Do I have that right?

Once again sorry for the questions, but a cheap, good alternative to be able to do macro while waiting to be able to afford a new 100mm lens would be great!

Yes, I reckon your right, a 49mm filter size is the go. I have a 50mm M and I am sure its exactly the same size.

I know what I wrote sounds sort of confusing. The reverse adapter has a k-mount on one side (just like a regular lens) and threads on the other side (just like a standard filter).

You screw the adapter onto the front of the lens where a filter would go, then mount the k-mount side of the adapter onto the camera. The normal k-mount of the lens will then be sticking out toward your subject.

Btw... Focus is achieved by moving the camera fore and aft since the focus ring will have no effect in this configuration.

You can find the filter sizes for many Pentax normal primes at Pentax Normal Prime Lenses at Bojidar Dimitrov's Pentax K-Mount Page (an invaluable resource).
