Went to the pond to photograph Hooded Mergansers but there were none. Grabbed this abstract so's not to come home empty handed.

I hear you! Every time I think I have a worthwhile loon photo I see one that knocks my socks off.
Apparently a Kayak and regular visits are the way to go. There are several folks here in Maine who the loons gain trust for after a while. Their images are astounding.
