I was driving through the little town of Monterey IN today, when I saw this sight.
I understand why this happened.
The park is dedicated to war dead.
The little town doesn't have many obvious places to put a creche.
But putting 'Baby Jesus' next to a cannon???

Agreed, but maybe better than next to the porta potty on the other corner.

A bit of a stark contrast to peace on earth...

Agreed, with the contrast and also the choices we have to make peace or war?

Someone thought it would be a blast? I guess take small comfort it wasn't placed directly in front of the cannon?

Maybe they mixed up cannon and canon?

Thank you for your comment.

I guess they would have been better off looking for a third option.

Thank you for your comment.

That was exactly what my first thought was - why I circled the block so I could photograph the sight.

Honestly, I never thought of it that way.

I guess no one wanted to hide the cannon, even at that time.

Only people arguing here about camera brands make that error.

A cover for the cannon while the crib is placed here would have been nice.
But as the crib is not that solemnly either, they might didn't have the funds for that

This display is in a part of the US known as the "Bible Belt",
so those who erected it should have known the account includes some invisible angle sentries.

Thanks for your comment.

I guess they should provide a year-round concrete "pillbox" for the cannon.

Thank you for your comment.

As I said, even I drove past at first and had to come back around - but I am glad that I had my camera with me.
