Some years ago, Connie had some new bushes planted in the front of our house. I've forgotten what they're called (if I ever knew); they're evergreen, but in the fall a few of their leaves turn bright red. Here's a pic I took a few days ago.

Checked with my wife - she calls it a Cleyera, so I suspect you're talking about the same thing.

It would certainly were that the case, but only a few of the leaves produce the bright red in a given year.
