A " simple " photograph that allows the imagination to see many different things Michael. Excellent image IMO.

Thank you very much! I decided to take this on a whim. Just decided to see what would come out of putting a black board behind the candles and I like it.

Nice photo

I don't know much about the customs of the Jewish holidays, but your post says 7 candles.
Can you explain why there is a count of 8 candles on the picture? Is this a special meanings?

Happy Hanukkah.

One of the customs is that you aren't supposed to derive benefit from the lights. So an extra one is lit each night. It is also customary to use this extra one to light, or relight the others. Typically it sits higher or lower or otherwise separated from the others to show it is different, but with candles this can be lost as they all burn at different rates.

I agree with @pjv that this is a simple but meaningful image.

Thank you everyone.

And yes, there's 8 candles but the 5th from the left is used to light the other 7. In this way we don't count this candle as relating to one of the (so far) seven days but a candle unto itself. I took this as the candles were burning down so they're all similar in height. Like what MSL said below

Simple negative space shots like this isolate the subject in a way that leads to a clear thought process. Poetry in color.

I was really excited by that 300f2/8 lens. Wow! I want one. :P

Thanks! When I saw that it was only $550 I knew I couldn't pass up the opportunity to get it. It's amazing seeing how bright the viewfinder is compared to the Bigma. It's a heavy lens but I think very well worth it.
