I wasn't really comparing the with/without settings, rather seeing what it did. It certainly produces some large raw files. Will try a before and after scenario next.

Very nice. Personally I would use them for a little depth-of-field experiment.

They aren't going anywhere, neither are we so the possibilities are endless.

Very nice shot of the babushka doll. I have one , from the 80s... nice piece of craft. The pixel shift would help bring out more of the painted lines on the doll , and better color detail.

Just done a repeat shot one with pixel shift on and the other off. No difference at all that I can make out.

They are definitely colorful. It would be fun to align them from front to back, and shoot one wide open for a colorful bokeh shot.

Maybe it would. There is not much room though. This was on a small table top. The biggest problem was that the are very shiny so had to use minimal light to keep the highlights under control. Maybe need a light box. The backdrop worked out well though. Had an old black roller blind in the shed now repurposed as my still life backdrop.

Nice experiment :-) I wonder what it takes to see a difference beyond file size and hassle. subtler contrast?

Everyone insists on calling her "Russian Doll" when in fact her name is "Matrioshka"

This toy is very unique and indigenous to its region, they have always caught my attention and I think they are great.

Regarding the photo I like its colors and definition but I see it a bit flat, perhaps the light source located from another angle should have been used.

You might also try diffusing the lights which should cut down on strong reflections

Looking again at this the colours are pretty accurate. The problem is that Mamma Matroishka is quite faded. I think they came via Israel in the early 70s.
