Various animals have flow or walked onto our deck to clean up the seed I have spilled there filling our feeders, but it was a real treat to see this guy recently.
Cardinals are very shy animals - I had to stand in a dark corner once to photograph a strange-looking bird that turned out to be a molting Cardinal that kept briefly landing on our deck's railing.

I like the color contrast of your fore/background. The framing is nice, maybe I could go a bit closer. The exposure is very good. Nicely done.

I could have cropped it - but out of respect for the "rule of thirds" I thought I should leave the space in front of him.

As I said, I was flabbergasted when he landed within a dozen feet of my chair, with nothing but a glass door between us, but I thought I'd better take the picture first and ask questions afterwards.

I used to think that male Cardinals were solid red, but this variegated coloring is much better.
I'm thinking that the light color on his back may indicate that he is somewhat older than we usually see.

For some reason our bird feeder only attracts the females and we dont see males like that too often.

I have heard that Cardinals are territorial, but we do see several of each gender at this time of year.
I'm not certain whether they are adolescents that are still allowed to hang around, or whether they are neighbors which are allowed to share in the wealth.

Yes, I do enjoy seeing - and photographing them - although that will become even more so once our property is covered with snow, because they stand out so,
