Jupiter<-->Saturn +1 day
Lens: CElestron C6-XLT-A Camera: Olympus E-m5ii Photo Location: Virginia, USA Aperture: F10
Posted By: blues_hawk, 12-23-2020, 06:53 AM

I don't normally do much planetary imaging but this event seemed to demand a decent try.

These planets are tiny but very bright subjects so I used my Olympus em5ii to make use of the smaller pixels/sensor, as well as the flip screen. I figured I better post it to the m43 group because oly. I used an old Celestron cg-4 mount that I motorized a few years ago, and a Celestron C6 sct telescope. 1500@f10

"Seeing", which is the waviness of the atmosphere between camera and target, wasn't the greatest so I didn't see much in the way of details on Jupiter so I went ahead and pushed up exposures to get the moons and Saturn with decent detail. The two planets also have very different light levels with Saturn being so much farther away.

@Adam: If I need to move this to other brands I can probably figure it out. Just holler.

This wide angle image taken last week shows how low and little time I had from my remote location in the upper back field.

Here's a shot of the visiting bodies leaving the scene of the crime a day after their little tryst. This one is shorter exposure.

This one is brighter and shows the moons, but the seeing effects are massing with them. I also got some video footage I plan to put through "lucky imaging". maybe I'll get lucky. ;>
[update: sadly all the video was too bright. New cameras new mistakes, so little time.]

huh... I think I had a better pic last time. (boggle) - must be the shoulder pain.

Well done! I've contemplated getting a telescope many times. I tried an online telescope network but it turned out to be expensive.

WOW! I managed to delete every one of these from my server. I'll try to get this fixed asap. My wife wanted her own site and I was trying to talk apache2 into juggling them both and broke the whole bloody thing.

Timeshift ftw? :boggle: I restored a backup but that undid the previous day's uploads.

Hahaha! Yes, this is very much true! Although, I know of some folks getting very god results with a small 6" reflector on a EQM-35 mount with grease replaced. About as inexpensive as you can possibly get brand new with a telescope setup. More expensive than going with a strictly camera/camera lens setup to begin with though.
Regardless, it is still a money pit more than simple photography is.

Is everybody able to see those images? I got reports in other posts that some folks couldn't see them, and one that said it was a link. I'm still trying to sort out this whole self hosted server thing too. It is online most of the time but has me worried about the links. I need to fix that wide angle one still. - I may have to stop doing it that way, but I'm a more than bit miffed at big tech lately and am trying to extricate myself from their clutches.
