Ruins in Black & White
Posted By: wa5am, 11-14-2008, 09:39 PM

Many years ago this was a small college on top of a mountain in Arkansas called Petit Jean. Nothing but ruins now. Seemed a good candidate for black and white (I also toned it some). K20D and Sigma 17-70mm.

Comments appreciated ...good or bad!

Hey Morg - I really dig this shot. I'd like to see it "plain" B&W as well - just to compare with the tone effect.

Thank Jer! I appreciate it. Here is the original right out of the camera except for resizing down to use on the web. I did no other PP on this. Actually I like the color too, and had a hard time deciding on if I should convert it! That's why we keep the originals I guess!

I lied. It just occured to me that I do a very slight USM as I resize down to 1024w. I resize in two steps, 50% on the first, then a USM, then to 1024 pixels wide for LS shots and another very small USM. The original on the K20D is 4672 pixels wide for LS.

Well Yeah! Great fit!

The feeling is very crumbling. Perfect for the subject.

Then again... This site must be a treasure of photo-ops! Go back; Go Often! Bring flashes. What a playground.

The textures on those rocks! Beautiful.
