Too big to swallow
Lens: 60-250 Camera: k-5 Photo Location: Lakeland, FL
Posted By: markvc, 01-05-2021, 10:00 AM

Out for a walk on New Years at the local nature preserve and saw this Anhinga trying to get his catch down the hatch. Watched for at least 15 minutes and he never got it down - the fish looks to be bigger than his gullet would allow.
Must be very frustrating to not get the rewards of your efforts.

Younger bird learning the ropes? A lesson that I imagine won't need repeating.

What a moment to catch - and well caught, too! (And like others above, let me clarify - my comments are for the the photographer: the bird appears to be another story altogether!!)

A real case where his eyes were bigger than his stomach. Terrific photography - perfect timing, composition and exposure.

Herons and anhingas can swallow pretty big prey, but maybe not that big! Great capture!

Wow.. Nice catch! ... Well, for the photographer, it seems. Looks painful, and frustrating, for that bird.
