Blurred with Blown Highlights - But I Like It
Lens: 50-135 Camera: K3 Shutter Speed: 1/25s
Posted By: crossed-up, 02-18-2021, 12:03 PM

I was going through my archive and found a shot of a 356 on a rally event. I had rejected it due to being too blurred but there was something about it I still liked in terms of the atmosphere and sense of speed.

It's great to see a 356 in action!! And the sense of rapid motion is clearly conveyed in this shot. All my pics of 356s are those in shows and concours and statically displayed.

Thanks for posting this pic.

That is a really nice shot. Fully convey the sense of motion.

Excellent shot! The blur helps to convey the dynamics of the ride - great!

I like it. Not every shot needs to be in focus and perfectly exposed. There's something going on in there, of artistic quality.

Thanks for all the kind comments, I thought it was a good example of how sometimes an image can 'just work' despite the lacking the technicalities that we often obsess over

For comparison here are a couple technically much better shots of a 912 and 914 from the same event - much more in line with what competitors expect to see in terms of recording an event, but not necessarily as appealing purely as standalone images.

That blue 912 , 4 cylinder is a beautiful example of I'm guessing is now an uncommon car. Lovely lines.

Hey, these work too, but just in a different way. Back in 1971, when I was a grad student, I wanted to trade my '69 Mach I Mustang for a sports car. I test drove a 912 and thought it cool beyond words - the price was also beyond my meager budget. But I never forgot that car and I knew I end up with a Porsche sometime. It took a few decades, but in '09 I bought a 987 Boxster 2.7. I'm now driving my fourth Porsche - when I think about it, even though I didn't buy that 912, it still cost me a lot of money!
